Studio furniture
Just wondering what the people here use as a workstation/desk. I've seen some of the pics in the Studio Pics thread - some are really nice purpose
built desks, other people just using typical study desks or random tables.
Reason - I've just moved into a new place and have a dedicated room to work my magic. At the moment im using a crappy little writing desk with another
one beside it for equipment. Its ugly, unorganised and kinda hinders my workflow. Time to upgrade eh.
What would anyone looking for a nice sturdy decent sized desk recommend? How would you build/jury rig stands for speakers/keyboards/drum machines and
the like?
Your opinions would be interesting.
ps - im a cheap cunt.

I've always been close to buying a workstation desk with tiers, rack space, slide out keyboard shit etc. Then I remember the desks I have are
perfectly fine and I'd rather spend $700+ on something else. There are some nice Ikea hacks you can do/people have done to make them workstation-like.
Maybe during the summer I might hit up the old man and make a sick desk with him or something.
Anyway, I think as long as you have space for whatever equipment you have and are comfortable it doesn't matter.

was thinking the same thing, either going too build a desk or just reduce my main desk and get just a side rack.
i really dig this one, like the top loading rack

Now i have my own room, what was meant to be a long rectangle kitchen table, on top of which I put to stacks of bricks, and the side of a bookshelf to
give it a second level for my speakers and monitor. there is then heaps of dek space for my keyboard, pads, record player, etc. etc.

i have the benefit of working at a store that sells office furniture so i scored everything for free a nice leather executive chair so i feel important when im crafting a beat, a big corner workstation and a set
of filing drawers (minus the cardboard files) for wax. i built a couple of little chipboard boxes (300mmx300mm) to elevate my monitor speakers and
then drilled a 50mm hole through the front and back of the boxes. my mixer sits infront of one of the boxes and the cords get fed through the hole and
behind my work area which solves the annoying cord problem. also you can get rolls of that rubber grip mat from k-mart for like 5 bucks, it works well
to go under monitor speakers and shit to dampen vibration and echoing a bit aswell.
my 2 cents

Just bought a new desk, found this place that makes them in Preston. Pretty slick, and solid as an oak.
Check them out, highly recommended!

Great thread!
Building one yourself would be the most cost effective way to go, just a matter of weather you can be arsed and have tools.

Those look great - http://novaforge.com.au/content/view/45/71/
I have something similar, a largeish sized workstation. I bought it second hand for about $200 + shipping, had to assemble it myself, the only problem
is the guy who shipped it forgot the rails for the slide out keyboard so I've never been able to install it, which is really annoying as I would love
the extra desk space and it would mean I could actually work at my desk as opposed to at the kitchen table which is what I do when I'm not doing
computer/music related stuff.
Definitely recommend a proper station, especially if you start picking up a few bits of rackmount gear, if you don't have mounts you are definitely
going to end up wishing you did

I looked into it a while back and people were telling me I probably couldn't do it? Basically all I have is the slide out tray and the insert holes
under the desk where the rails and mounts would have connected, if I got measurements on these you think I could do it? Would be awesome if so
*edit* also, I'm not attached to the particular slide out tray, I'd be happy to replace that with anything if it made my life easier?

Yeah, Even if you got a completely different size that did not match
the pre drilled holes it would just be a matter of screwing the new one on the under side of your desk. easy brah.

2000 x 600 Ikea Vika Amon, not as deep as I would've liked, but fits my 4xreference monitors/2x22inch screens/NI Maschine/audio interface/61 key
controller/mouse & keyboard. Wish my MPC & Turntable fit though, but I have them on a smaller version of the same desk. Table top ($75) 5xLegs (25).
$100 all up. I wanted to spend more on my acoustic treatment than a desk.
