Rioli is over rated. He is obviously a good player but some people put him in the elite category up there with the likes of Ablett, Judd, Cloke, Franklin, Bartel, Boyd, Selwood, Steve Johnson, Murphy, Kerr, Hodge, Griffin, Goodes, Cox, Pendlebury, Swan etc.

He is not in the best 20 players in the comp. He would be in my top 50 but is not as good as LeCras.

Cyril is one of those players who people rate highly based largely on the incredible games they play 4 or 5 times a year...eg like round 6. This round he did NOTHING. That is typical Cyril...devastating one game, merely serviceable the next two.

How dare you not add Watson to your list!!!. Also i agree he is over-rated, he has potential to be a gun, he just isn't consistent enough, and im not being bias because i support Essendon, seeing as his uncle is Longy and im a fan of Rioli.

Not a Saints fan but, fuck what a good win. stiff shit Carlton fans :)

Yeah Watson is comfortably a better player than Rioli. Also Hayes, Goddard, Pavlich and Sandilands deserve to be on that list of elite players.

Also, fuck yeah Saints!! Great win and it keeps my Eagle fellas in top spot with two home games and Brisbane in the next 3 rounds.

If the dogs had a functioning forward line I reckon we'd be top 4 material.

Highlight of the round was seeing GWS win ;) good shit. Crows winning wasn't bad either.

Been thinking about getting foxtel. Anyone here used the bigpond streaming AFL package? Does it compare for the price?

wrong, he just doesn't have a tank, and his groins blow up.
he is not a work horse.

most skillful bloke in the comp, and everybody knows this.

no debating.

I never said he isn’t skilful, I said he is over rated. Many pundits and excitable commentators rate him up there with those elite players that I listed.

When he is “on” he is one of the best players in the comp. No doubt. But clearly his overall output does not match those aforementioned players who perform at a consistently brilliant standard and are typically in their team’s best 3 almost every week.

Cyril, on the other hand, goes missing in at least 5 or 6 games a season, like he did on the weekend.

To make a comparison with cricket he is a bit like Shahid Afridi from Pakistan. At his best, Afridi is utterly mesmerising and dominant. He tonks sixes at will and then takes 5-for to boot. The next match he gets out for a duck trying to reverse sweep Shaun Tait and bowls shitloads of wides.

It appears that when Cyril plays you suffer this same affliction.

^ word, although straight plural yo - aka, double-groin blow up.

he didn't go missing, and your assessment of when he is off song is just wrong.
he has had 5 poor disposals in 90 games, in 4 years.
he left the ground at 3/4 time against the Dees to pre-prepare some turtle and wombat meat for the Hawks indigenous feast.

the Hawks won't risk the 'little man' when they are up by 10 goals, just in case his, and my own, groin blows up, again.

Comparing a 170cm 80kg Aboriginal player with 190cm 95kg player is a tad silly.. lol Watson, Judd, Ablett those blokes dominate hardball, Rioli would get handled.

Of course Rioli would win a 1on1 foot race on the wing... same as Garlett, and many other small mids/forwards. But as you stated it is a fact, but its a silly thing to say. Fact

hold up, i didnt make the initial comparison of watson and rioli i just added to it.

i dont think riloi should be compared with midfielders, he doesnt rack up those numbers, he should be compared to garlett, betts, milne etc the players in his position.

^ all of those blokes would get towelled up from a Rioli tackle, which is the best tackling technique in the Hawks, and most likely the comp.

fools tackle around the waist.
while good tacklers aim for the belly button.
but Rioli grabs both your fucking wrists, or at least one, so they can't dispose, so he wins again...

if he had a tank, he would be too good, so lets just be happy he is a burst player, for the sake of the competition...

I'll use some stats to back up my argument.

Dogs are...

#1 for disposals
#2 for contested possessions
#2 for uncontested possessions
#2 for clearances
#5 for Inside 50's

That reads like a top 4 side.

However they are also...

#16 for score conversion once inside 50
#15 for total shots at goal
#13 for marks inside 50
#12 for goals per game

If we somehow fix our forward problems this year (unlikely) we'll be a pretty good side. I guess the upside is that the forward line is still young and developing and should naturally improve.

I think our rebuild will go pretty smoothly.

Were pretty frustrating to watch because we have had periods of dominance in every game we've played this year (bar the st kilda game) with very little to show for it.

^ it would be good for the Dogs to win a flag in my lifetime, if only for the redic street party that would engulf the hustle and bustle of downtown Footscray.

statues would be erected.

I’ve overlooked the Saints when considering flag contenders but after watching them last night I might have to rethink.

Given the lack of any dominant teams I think the Saints are an outside chance of the flag.

In fact any of these 7 teams could win it this year:

Bombers
Carlton
Pies
Geelong
St Kilda
Eagles
Hawthorn

Saints looked super potent up forward last night…Kosi is in decent touch and with Riewoldt (who is not the player he was but still good) that gives them great marking power.

But it was their small forwards who looked most dangerous…Milne booted 4, Saad kicked a couple and ran amok, Wileri also caused headaches and they have Schneider to slot back into that group.

They have a pretty solid backline and some serious class in their midfield – Hayes, Goddard, Dal Santo and Montagna.

I imagine the battle for the flag will largely come down to who finishes top 4 – as it always does.

Any of those 7 teams above look capable of winning but you gotta finish in the 4 to get the flag.
