Wasn’t the consensus in another thread that Kerser was at the opposite spectrum of what triple j likes? Now a triple j supported gig gets announced with Kerser on the bill and people still suggest it’s too triple j orientated and not underground enough?

Festivals need to make profit otherwise they become heatwave, i have no problem with booking headliners for that.

Would of been nice to see some underground acts - maundz/k21/chasm/lazy/strut/goatmob/dwc - get slots if revenue was covered.

Good to see mase n mattic getting a slot though.

But yeah if you dont like it dont go.

You guys are all mad

Triple J/Mainstream/Regular Festival getters:

Hoods
Illy
Pez
TZU
Spit Synd
Seth Sentry
Evil Eddie
Mantra (really doesn't get that many festivals)
Thundamentals (really don't get that many festivals)
The Tongue (really doesn't get that many festivals)
Seven (is actually the homie's first real festival slot i think)

7 arguably 11 total

Rawer/underground/not mainstream media or festival regulars:

Vents
Kerser
Bias
Briggs
Mase-n-Mattic
Deathstarrs
Dwiz

7 total

Newcomers:

Bam Bam
Kudos

Pretty well rounded if you do the numbers. Sure, if I was putting the bill together I would have made it a priority to get DWC, Maunds and Trem on there (all had massive releases in the last 12months), but I stopped putting together bills a looong time ago. About when my tastes and the general punters' became too far apart.

^^ Well summarised, Joe.

No-one is ever likely to fund a purely 'underground' large-scale festival again. There have been various attempts (some successful, some partly successfully, others that failed before they really began) but to expect a festival organiser to "keep their ears to the street" or what-have-you is a bit far fetched.

Like Joe said, they balanced it out pretty well IMHO.

I am also a bit confused to not see some names on there (Maundz, Jake Biz, Rainman, K21, Tommy Ill etc - all with recent albums of note) but hey, they probably only have so much budget allocated for interstate flights/accom etc. They're running a business and not a charity, after all.

I always mention this and I will ask again as I can't remember, but was was the turn out at Park Jam like all those years ago? There were some fairly raw, underground (at the time) acts, battles and some bigger names on the bill.

You raise a good point there about Rainman, Jake Biz and Tom, all local, renowned professionals on stage and have recent releases. Plus I'm sure they wouldn't be chasing a huge fee to be a part of something like this.

Maybe they'll do a second "Local" announcement like last year?

^^ Yeah, I sort of wondered if there would be a second announcement like you say. Was scratching my head a bit, trying to remember how long the performance list was last year, but couldn't really remember.

Maybe Dwiz can shed some light on this?

Edit: I think the good thing about Sprung is, for artists like the ones I mentioned, is that (if they even want to be a part of it) "there's always next year". I was very impressed with how well it was put together last year.

In a funnier alternative universe I like to imagine there would be two stages and a bunch of Illy fans are tripping balls and they get separated from their friends, end up at stage 2, freak out cause they are missing HTH or something and then they are suddenly in a sweaty front row mosh of a stage colab between Jake Biz, Tornts, Muandz, Briggs, etc and it sends them into a nervous breakdown.

Purchasing Omega Replica Watches To Remain Fashionable. Compared with the high degree of authenticity of Omega watches prices they are effective alternatives to truly appreciate the beauty of luxury. Can firstly that the cost of a genuine Omega clock as much as $45 while the cost of a user replica as a fraction the former is. If you are looking for accessories to your everyday look chic and improve the social status look no further than the Omega replica watches. Make sure you set the focus to the crowd.

Haha, this is kinda what happened last year from what I heard. Two stages side by side with underground acts doing sets in the "changeover" time between the more mainstream acts. So people who wanted to be at the front for 360 had to sit through Jake Biz and vice versa. Really good idea I reckon, exposes the general public to some real (sorry, more traditional) shit and gives guys like Bias and Lazy the stadium size crowds they deserve.

lol

Actually the story is even better if there is a black hole, vortex or other type of space time continuum problem and its 1998 and the front row is full of charged up writers and wannabe bikie noms. Then they have the nervous breakdown.

brb... writing a novella about this.

They obviously couldn't afford 360. As a promoter you would want him at the festival

Word prob could have worded that better, no shots, I don't think Lazy or Trem would necessarily want to perform at these things. Or at least I wouldn't automatically assume they'd want to. Especially down the bill like they had lazy last year. They can promote there own shows and get a big crowd. Jake Biz just dropped a album called commercial hell so is it possible he wouldn't want to play it? it used to be common for underground rappers to shy away from commercialism. The artists here are basically billed in the order of units sold of the flyer. which is logical I guess from a commercial standpoint.

Its not a shot at anyone on the bill at all Dwiz, Ive known BamBam longer than Ive known anyone in the music scene and he's sound. He was at my wedding, been a commercially viable artist doesn't make you a bad person. It's just a interesting thing that everyone assumes everybody would want to play the event.
