yeah, as lnog as the area you are usuing it in is QUIET. even try to dedden the room with couches, rugs, pillows/cushions, small furry animals, etc.
the NT1 is a condensor mic, and will pic up evrything.. be careful what you wish for..

my 2c on this post.
i've used nearly all the gear you guys have spoken about, so if you want a critique on any of it, let me know.
the behringer mixer's pre amps are really noisy, and the on board effects are ten times worse so i would steer clear. wouldn't want to put
one anywhere near my vocal line.
the rode mics are awesome value. Can't go past a tube mic with variable polar patterns for around a grand (i think thesedays).. always handy to
have around.
just remember, with tube mics they are very warm sounding (depending on the tube) and they can really flatten your rap, if thats what you're
doing.
try something with a little more 'air' or crisper high end.. like a neumann or an audio technica... also you're pre is just as
important, as well as your compressor..
in regards to vocal booth, it's not essential, but will help you lots in removing room reverberation which will give you nasty cheap garage
sounding recordings.. computer noise is another big killer..
for a cheap ass mic, id go the nt1-a.. but remember guys with condenser mics, they require phantomn power.. and so you need a desk or pre that can
supply that 48volts to your mic..
if you want a desk or an audio interface, why not buy a motu 828ii which has both in the same unit, with 8in/8outs (plus adat) and 2 mic pres... and
all you need is a firewire plug..
awave is selling them for about 1500 at the moment.. damn good value for money..
was talking to the editor of mix down, and he couldn't get enough of it...
anyway. have fun, peas.

anyone know what the industry standard mic is for recording vocals? |
Due to the nature of microphones, I've never heard of an 'industry standard' because every mic is different and every sound is
different, but there seem to be several reliable mics a lot of dudes fall back on. Shure, Rode and Neumann vocal condensers for studio use are all
decent and there's all higher end models which cost more but have a 'better' sound. Then again, dudes like Bono in U2 record through
SM57's, which are instrument mics. So it's more about what works for you. |
thanks for that.
I really need to suss out which Mic to get, I guess I'll ask other producers and MCs what they recommend and take it from there.
|
I hadent really seen this thread till now , Im prolly about six months to late but I thought id leave my two cents anyways, I didnt think lapse fully
answered the question, to the best of my knowledge most pro Australian and the majority of middle to high priced U.S studios all seem to carry one
mic, which has been quoted as being the "industry standard recording mic" .. That would be the Neumann U87 ,And has been for some time.
Peace
inf.

Anyone used a BEHRINGER C-1 before?
I read good things about it but it's all based off singing.
I don't sing, so yeah haha.
Any good?
