Yo Reflux, how are you finding those Adams? I'm tossing up whether to get those or some Dynaudios...

Reflux, that's a beautiful space man - could you take us through some of your gear and what you're using it for and how you find it?

Yeah flashy, please do. I recognise some of the gear, but a rundown would be grand.

I love the Adam's...their transient response is awesome. Can be a bit different to the ear initially, but like any monitor u get used to them.
I have the S2.5's... I recommend the S series over the A's..different league although the A7's are fantastic still for the $.
U won't go wrong with Dynaudios, Adam, Focal, Barefoot, ATC's, Genelec (not my personal choice though).
As for rundown..Ain't much to it really. Would like more gear and better but wouldn't we all.
Fireface 400 Soundcard
Universal Audio LA-3A - Slow Opto musical Rms style compressor
Emperical Labs MIKE -E - Great pre with Transformer sound - Saturator and Compressor
Universal Audio 1176 - RevF Fully Recapped - Ex ABC studio sydney - FAST compressor
Universal Audio SOLO110 - Solid State Preamp
Behringer Headphone Amp
SPL Monitor Controller
Have everything running into patchbay so i can make a chain to suit. Can also run DAW tracks out to analog etc which is handy.
Basically have two different types of pre colour, Saturation if needed, fast or slow compression that can be chained together too.
Running everything off a power conditioner too for master on/off switch and surge protection.

This is a studio myself and the guys from Mind Over Matter have been slowly building, still in the process of putting the control room together over
time, but it's mainly used for recording rather than any kind of mixing or production, so it's not a huge priority.

Neumann U87ai

Avalon 737SP Preamp and Mackie Big Knob studio controller

MOTU Ultralite Mk2
and some randoms

You've got some quality pieces of gear there Drake, tweaked to their true potential the U87 and the 737SP would yield some fantastic silky results on
vocal takes. Very nice indeed.
Seems a shame to mix these top shelf units with such lowly monitors however. I'm going to assume with the Mackie Big Knob there you will be A/B with
something much better down the track... I'm interested to see what you've got on the to do list.

Yeah, as I said at the top of the post, this is pretty much solely a recording studio, built primarily for the vocal/instrument chain. Monitors are
just there for us to have a half decent listen to what we've tracked in, then everything goes elsewhere for mixing.

Good to see you got the 737 in there finally Drake - would be interested to hear some A-B's between the 737 and the fatman at similar drive to hear if
there's any noticeable difference - is this a possiblity for you to tee up?

That's a top idea. I have the fatman back at my place now, but next time I get a lift (don't want to carry it around on the train) i'll bring it back
in and set up some A/B comparisons. Should be pretty soon, still plenty on the recording schedule.

This is what I managed to throw together (with a little help from my friends) for about a grand when the bug bit again. There's a few things I want
to improve, but its functional.

Damn some of you guys have nice setups...crisp as balls as someone else mentioned would be accurate description.
Renovating a planned 'studio' room atm so this is my 'shitbox' set up. Surprisingly this room sounds great with drums and vocals with no treatment at
all. Found using my small monitors with a stack of A4 paper underneath much more accurate than my bigger ones with proper acoustic dampening stand
things. Long tiled hallway leading out of the room, have tried to use it as a big reverb chamber effect, sounds alright in small amounts.
Didn't bother to clean up, usually like to have super clean work area but in a bit of a creative slump with nothing to record or mix.

I'll update when my 'studio' is done. Will be a bit more impressive with all my gear setup and on display.
Pretty dope having a massive window behind my screen/speakers. Nice view and even with curtains not drawn it sounds decent.
edit - jesus, it's hideous. turned the picture into a link, view at own risk.

Want to make a really unique/inspiring/tripped out studio one day that sounds great. When I'm rich.

Haha. Nah it stays relativley clean. There's a couch to the right which normally gets shit piled on, and the table with the decks sometimes overflows
with wax in and out of sleeves but i can't work in mess anymore... did it for too long!
The door at the end is a massive walk-in wardrobe which i'm turning into a booth. Pics to come.
Edit:I am also aware the tweeters should be facing out. I have since fixed this.
